Thank you so much dude, I never knew how underpainting worked because so many people do it without explaining and I always thought they made their brushes opacity lighter for awhile

usually, youd use a brush with some opacity to let the yellow show through. That way you dont really need to change the colors yourself, the lower opacity will do it for you.

this isn't underpainting really, but it's a smart technique, and is good to help train your brain to be more bold in choices. a lot of artists struggle with colour and shading because they don't go dark or bright enough. while this isn't underpainting, the name still works for it lol

If people want to try a similar technique to get the hang of this, try underpainting in the sense of laying down your theme color (in this case, yellow) and then on another layer, clip it down and using a lower opacity brush, go over it in washes till you get the value you want. This helps with pallete cohesion too
