After my mom was diagnosed with leukemia & had a series of strokes last August, my boss told me to work from home & do what I needed to do for her. He never once asked me to account for my time or get more done, and after she passed in April, he told me I could keep working from home & just show up in the office 1 day a month. I’ve never been more grateful to be working for a small company led by a decent human being.

Honestly, this is my biggest pet peeve. If your employer is asking you to return to office you need to do so some of us did not have that luxury during Covid… go back to the office.

When you spend all day in an office on a computer to talk to people not in the office, your work is not “office based”. At that point the requirement is about control, not productivity.
