I like learning how local people build here. Coming from Calif, moisture and water wasn't an issue. It's so different here. I worry about a humidifier costing a lot of electricity. But yesterday I opened an eyeshadow I hadn't used in a while & it was moldy!!

I lived in a house in PA that had a layer of plaster like that, but they ran their fingers all through it for a beautiful texture. Loved it.

I have question, so the plaster is crumbling, do you ask the plasterer to remove it first before they install the drywall and then covered with plaster? Genuinely curious

Personally I’d take it back to the beautiful stone it was built with real stone walls are beautiful they can be plastered with lime plaster to allow them to breathe

is plaster different from drywall compound? I have a feeling they're basically the same thing too, bc drywall is also covered in compound, colloquially called it's mud but it's not literally the dirt from outside kind of mud. It's also used to texture walls. I actually live in a nuclear era home and also have crumbling plaster walls that make it a nightmare for all the projects to fix the home up. For us, we had to break the plaster boards out completely and install drywall, but a lot of that had to do with not a single wall being insulated 😭 this is the SW. But yeah the plaster board causes problems when it starts to crumble bc it will never stop. from my experience the drywall will want to fall off if you just slap it over plasterboard, you definitely made the right decision in the end
