That is about the only news we see about China. I remember my mother crying about that and not allowing us to watch the news until they stopped showing the video. We dont get to hear about all the success China has had. This is why we were so surprised by the kindness on Rednote.

It wasn't only the US involvement, it was more complicated. The west portrays it as a liberal democratic movement but it wasn't either. Mostly was a reaction at the liberalization of the market and the global atmosphere.

The way it was portrayed here in the west it made the Chinese government look really bad. On reflection, looking back, if China had gone down the route mapped out by USA, they may have ended up with civil dissent and much less economic & social progress. For all the US preaching about democratic values & human rights, its citizens actually have fewer civil & human rights than most countries and huge numbers of them live as wage slaves, fearful of medical bankruptcy 😪
