My union local 147 Sandhog’s did this work it’s always talked about a lot of workers died! Hence the name Sandhog’s cause all the sand they excavated! We still have compressed air jobs work for 4hrs then decompress for 2hrs. We built a water tunnel 600ft below manhattan real fun job!!

a good way to visualize the bends is to pop the lid on a soda. the liquid (your blood) goes from stable high pressure to low pressure very quickly and gas that was dissolved in it is released.
