I don’t get it. Just turn the key off. Even if brakes fail, it will slow down coasting to a stop.

This happened to multiple people and Toyota blamed the floor mats but after further investigation they found out it was a faulty drive by wire accelerator pedal

if you floor the accelerator and the brake at the same time but then release the brake and reapply the brake, the brake does not work

If your breaking system is functioning properly it will over power the motor butttt there was a design flaw with i believe Toyotas power boosting breaks where if you where holding the gas and tried stopping let off and hit the breaks again the break booster would get weaker and weaker or disable
