Y’all of course they CAN jump down, but this is about building trust. If they feel like they have to fight you and jump out of your arms to get away, then they will never want to be held!

They’re cats. They have spines & balance that’s make Olympic gymnasts green with envy.

that’s not a high jump for a cat, maybe a kitten but a cat no, mine does it all the time without question

She is just making the point that it’s etiquette to put them down. It’s the equivalent of someone putting you 5 feet platform and expecting you to jump down- it gets old and even if you’re “built for it “ it’s annoying and does wear you out.

Say it louder- if they know that you’ll put them down when they want to be put down they are so much more trusting of you!!!

OMG YES ! We always let our cat down super gently. Hes so trusting and calm. They absolutely hate being dropped. They don't trust people who drop them.

I Am doing more research for my cat, as a new cat mom, however I for some reason fear that this should be common sense. I would be scared my cat and landed on the ground and injured herself or something 😭 (especially if they are small)

its the little things like that that build a lot of trust 😭 my cat trusts me enough that at the vet she will crawl up to be held by me instead of freaking out bc of stuff like this

My cat is getting old and refuses to jump, but he also won’t tell me when he wants down, so he just gets carried around against his will until I don’t want him anymore

Nooo you’re right. I built trust with my cat by placing him down gently when he doesn’t want to be held anymore.
