It’s crazy how similar our investment journeys are. I started with long term investing, then moved on to swing trading, buying low and selling high. I eventually got into selling options through one of my best friend’s dad, who taught me that I could buy stocks at a discount by selling puts, and earn extra income from stocks I already owned by selling calls. After a week of learning from him, I was hooked. I use the premium I collect from selling calls and puts to buy more shares of the stocks I want to own long term. Once I accumulate 100 shares, I start selling covered calls. I also love the wheel strategy. I don’t call myself a trader, the term has been overused by the day trading community. I consider myself a long term investor who sells options to collect weekly or monthly premium. Sometimes I sell LEAPs to collect larger premiums, but I rarely hold them to expiration. I typically close the position once I hit around an 80% profit target, usually after holding it for a month or two. I make around $30,000 to $50,000 in premium each month. My friend’s dad who taught me makes around $100,000 to $150,000 per month just from selling options. I always tell new investors to avoid day trading and buying options, it’s extremely difficult to consistently predict market direction. But with selling options, I don’t need to predict direction. If my strike price gets breached, I can simply roll the position up or down and receive more premium. I also avoid penny stocks entirely. Over the years, I’ve met many successful long term investors, swing traders, and option sellers. But I’ve never met a consistently successful day trader, option buyer, or penny stock trader. Too many scammers on social media trying to sell new investors a get rich quick scheme by becoming a “day trader”. Sorry, but it doesn’t work like that. When it comes to selling options, even picking low deltas can still lead to consistent wins. And finally, don’t ever pay for this information. Everything you need to learn is available for free on YouTube and other online platforms. Anyone trying to sell you a course, Discord group, or membership program is likely a scammer.

In his Tesla example he needs to have 26,000 in cash available to secure that trade, I just want to add that detail to this example. of course you could do this with a cheaper stock and the money required on hand would be less.

The best way to start selling options is to start DCA into a stock until you have a 100 shares and try not to sell an option under you cost basis. Make sure you are doing this with companies you are willing to own. IMO selling options on the spy500 is best. you will need 60k to start.
