Depends on the situation, the first time or rare occasion, the manager is being overkill. The umpteenth time? You're lucky they're just nagging you, and not putting you on disciplinary or terminating your contract. It's a basic requirement to be on time.

Most retail managers are power tripping a$$holes that have no control in their personal lives so they spaz out at work because there’s nobody there to stop them. That’s why I tried to be as lenient as possible

I think it often comes from the manager's manager being controlling. my old boss was so controlling and intense and everyone hated him and then he got a new manager and he's so much more relaxed now it's wild
