When you see the ugliness, the brutality and horror of what we do to each other and this world, you feel we are lost. And then you're reminded of how much beauty we are also capable of creating, and you see there may be hope for us yet.

The most expensive object on earth, based on what was actually paid to obtain it... and everyone knows it's the ultimate scam🤣🤣

I saw this church in 1973, I’d just turned 18. It has stayed with me all these years as the most beautiful.

They will often times offer music performance there. I was lucky enough to catch a strings trio. Nothing more magical than sitting there listening to music while staring at all the beautiful glass at sunset.

Makes me think of the bogus Spear of Destiny that Austria still has displayed. I suppose the fact that these kind of things have been held for this many centuries is worth it from a historical perspective even if they are clearly not from the crucifixion

The gold wire reinforcement was added later to hold the pieces of thorns together. If it is the real crown of thorns, it would be extremely old plant matter and in a very delicate state

In relation to slide 10, that is the same reason we have Celtic High crosses! They’re meant to depict bible stories for those who couldn’t read, to help convert pagan Irish

Vernon Marsh :
While the original crown in Paris (a reed circlet without thorns) has a continuous history since 1239, no thorn relic can be verified as authentic. The 700+ claimed thorns are largely forgeries, diplomatic gifts, or pious copies. As scholar Joe Nickell notes, relics like these reflect medieval "devotional economies" where demand fueled replication The Crown of Thorns thus exists less as a physical object and more as a symbol endlessly replicated through fraud.

La Sainte Chapelle es una maravilla. Yo lloré la primera vez que subí, un amigo me dijo que lo hicera con los ojos cerrados y los abriera arriba. La belleza me sobrecogió.

Stained glass windows are not uniquely French. This chapel is uniquely beautiful however

So, Constantine's mother, Helen, was a big relic collector. Like, if someone mentioned a relic, she was going to get it. That's likely why it was in Constantinople.

So it doesn’t really look like this in real life, these are enhanced images. but it IS absolutely the single most amazing church in Paris. Even better than this, bc you can feel the history
