I know I’m late but write fanfiction. AO3, Wattpad, fanfiction.net, etc. Writing and publishing fanfiction is not that hard, it’s good practice to see what you can do with pre set characters, and it gives you feedback on how people react to your writing if it does well

if I can add to this - don't fall into the pitfall of writing "correctly". there are lots of guidelines about things like genre and story structure, but don't let them stop you from writing.

short stories or even poetry. enter small competitions and try to win any award, you can then call yourself an award winning author. my brother went this route. he's not a big name but has put out a book or two and writes for a living. sold one story to a movie production company because he writes so much and that company saw this particular story and wanted to turn it into a movie. he has writings seen around the world. lots of small stuff won't always make you rich, but will give you more opportunities to get the better gigs

Look up a local writers group or club. People workshop all the time. It's sometimes a great resource. Others, a toxic hellscape. See which, hope you get the good one, and listen to genuine feedback.

Mine would be to write fanfic lol, you already start with characters and worlds and you can explore the writing process and other aspects of writing immediately !! It can get you comfy w the process and feel!
