“Officer Safety” isn’t actually correct. Officers have to fear for their safety to lawfully have you exit the vehicle. They have to believe you are armed or dangerous.

As a passenger, never provide your ID. It isn't required and they can't force it. To id passengers they need reasonable suspicion that the passenger committed a crime/violation. You fo have to step out, but keep your mouth closed.
