I moved from Orange County, California when I was 23 (now 28) when I met my now husband. (Texas and now Tampa) Let me just say… I was so naive to think the whole world was like Cali 😂 I had no idea what I was leaving or how different life would be. I’ve grown a lot and definitely come from some humble beginnings. My Dad did his best and raised me with what he had. As I get older, I realize some of my fondest memories are with my Dad.. in his smoked out garage with all his ‘homies’ that watched me grow up… hearing the buzzing of his tattoo machine and funk/oldies blasting in my ears as I painted or played with our pit bulls. I grew up going to car shows with him and my grandpa and didn’t know they’d be moments so etched in my childhood. The first famous person I ever wanted to meet was Brenton Wood (and I did that day in that Fedora hat) LOL. I discovered oldies while hanging out in my Dad’s room one day at like 10 yrs old through a cassette tape and replayed it everyday. My dad used to pick me up In his Chevy and if I was too sleepy, I fell asleep on his lap while he blared Eminem or Ice Cube. I remember outside schools, in-n-out often & of course, Huntington Beach. I miss the Mexican food everyday and will never forget how hungover I was after my 16th bday party (yikes) .. but that California burrito slapped with all my friends the next morning talking about the night 😂 I’ve changed.. life has changed.. my beliefs are different, Jesus has completely transformed me, I live a completely different life than I come from .. but no matter what… I sit back and realize, THIS is where I’m from. This was truly my ‘culture’ and I didn’t know it back then… I just saw it as NORMAL. Times were tough for me at the time.. but I’ll always cherish them dearly and I’ll never not be a California Girl. 🫂🌴🥹 #california #oldiesbutgoodies #funk #californiacheck #caligirl
