Katayama Yutaka, a man from Japan, lived for twenty years without speaking a single word to his wife, starting in 1997 and until 2017, even though they lived in the same house together with their three children. The reason seemed trivial: work, stress, and pride had built a wall of silence between him and the women who had stood by his side all his life. In Japanese culture, there is even a term for this phenomenon: "mokutou", which translates as "stubborn silence" or "communication through silence", a form of emotional withdrawalvthat often appears in couples when one partner chooses not to speak, believing this way they express dissatisfaction or pain. Katayama chose this path, and his silence lasted two decades. Although the children begged him to speak to their mother, he couldn't overcomebhis block. His wife, suffeered in silence, raising her children and hoping for change. In the end, their eldest son, now an adult, decided to intervene and signed his father up for a television show that reunited couples separated by distances or conflict. There, after two decadesvof "mokutou", in front of the cameras and his family, Katayama found the courage to speak to his wife again. The emotion of the moment was overwhelming: his words broke the wall built between them, and the family cried with joy. Katayama learn us that silence does not heal and does not bring people closer, it only hurts and creates distance. Words, even the simple one, have the power to bind souls, to heal wounds, and to bring light where darkness has settled. Never let pride or fear steal your voice, because sometimes a timely "thank you", "forgive me" or "I love you" can save a relationship and change a life.
