On June 23, 2024, Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio was celebrating his 26th birthday in Tampa, Florida. Earlier that evening, police had forced him to leave an Airbnb due to exceeding the guest limit, so he relocated to a nearby Holiday Inn hotel. Around 4:40 AM, while Foolio was reportedly in the hotel parking lot, a vehicle pulled up and opened fire. He was shot multiple times in what authorities described as a targeted ambush. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Foolio was pronounced dead at the scene. The attack also injured three others, though their injuries were not fatal. Just hours before the shooting, Foolio had been active on Instagram, sharing birthday posts and showing his location — which may have played a role in revealing his whereabouts. His death added to the ongoing cycle of violence in Jacksonville’s rap scene, where real-life street feuds have often spilled into music and social media.
