Why so many people asking if she regrets adopting him? He’s not a puppy. He’s a human with massive issues. I admire your tenacity through this nightmare. The saddest part is he has lost a lovely family with his actions. I pray he finds the way and I pray you are ok.

I am the younger daughter. My older brother is still, to this day, my mother’s closest child. She protects him with everything she has and ignores me. I’m in my 30s. At this point I’ve accepted I’ll never be heard. You are saving this girl and by listening to her you will be saving her for the rest of her life.

It’s unfortunate but this was definitely a result of his trauma. And it’s true, being traumatized doesn’t allow him to traumatize others. You did the right thing by trying to get help. If you’re not equipped to help him during those episodes, it only makes sense that you sought out professionals. I wish my parents would’ve done that.

So why do they not prosecute him if he has said he did it? Would that not help her heal with him being somewhere he could not get out and make her feel a bit safer? I understand he has a mental illness but he should,be held accountable for his actions

How do/did you navigate any negative feelings you had/have towards him? I could imagine this would cause deep anger, frustration, and possible disgust due to the abuse

How old was he while these things happened? If he were under 18, there isn't much that can/will be done. Sibling to sibling SA is a horrible occurrence, and happens more than people realize. I'm a social worker and have a degree in trauma on top of my graduate degree. Furthermore, if he had been victimized himself, which is incredibly likely as that's often the precursor with sibling-to-sibling abuse, he could consciously know he was wrong and still have unconscious and nearly uncontrollable urges that led to the horrific behaviors. It is so sad all the way around.
