This is crazy I paid 400 about 10 years ago when my dog had parvo why is it so expensive now

Our old dog caught the parvo when she was 6months old and the vet wanted $5000 upfront but we didn't have the fund so we took her home. I made an area for her in the garage with fence, sanitized it real good, spoon fed her and used syringe to force her to drink water. I made sure she never left that sanitized section. It was a stressful time but she's now 10 and a half yrs old!

Omg when I read the word Parvo I almost started crying because my 3 month old puppy died 2 weeks after I got him and his sister this was last year in July. I wasn’t able to save him because we didn’t have the money but his sister is still here thank god. If I lost both of them I would have cried so so hard. I miss Aries everyday but am thankful I have Athena( I’ll add a picture of Athena and Aries below)

When you get an animal, you’re not thinking about something that might happen down the road that would be several thousand dollars that you can’t pay for. I don’t agree with you shouldn’t get an animal if you can’t pay for vet bills. If that’s the mentality that people should lhave then there would be tons of animals left in shelters and never adopted. Most people probably don’t have several thousand dollars for an unexpected vet bill.

Yes fully vaccinated dogs are starting to get parvo lately since so many people have stopped vaccinating their dogs or don’t realize after the first set they have to have a yearly booster parvo has mutated and there are now three types the second and third type are more likely to be in a fully vaccinated older dog and is much much deadlier! Please vaccinate your pets and use a veterinarian for it not a over the counter vaccine from a farm store.

Some of the vets are owned by VCs now so in some instances they should be able to afford to help a rescue puppy. It is a hard fight so I get why it is hard to make waves. But it is shameful that they demandmoney. I saw a dog die from poisoning while the human sorted a working credit card.

Is at home treatment not an option? We have treated a parvo puppy at home with medications and subcutaneous fluids. I understand more serious cases can require hospitalization.

I’m sure you have a network of amazing vets, but Dr. Alex Huhman at Powers Ferry Animal Hospital is the most amazing vet I’ve ever encountered. When one of my rescue kitties was extremely ill, they worked with me on a treatment plan that worked financially for everyone. Seriously they rock!
