Bottom trawlers are large, fuel-intensive vessels that drag heavy metal gear and nets across the seafloor, effectively bulldozing marine habitats. Shockingly, 90% of the UK’s marine protected areas remain open to this highly damaging type of fishing. Ocean havens around the world are being wrecked by bottom trawling. This highly destructive fishing method is a scourge on our seas, everywhere. It’s time for our leaders to act. We need an urgent ban of bottom trawling in marine protected areas.
