@_bbbq_: found a few elder scrolls in my drawer. had to record them before they disappear again 🫥 map of ottoman turkish empire (turcicī imperiī descriptiō, printed, hand colored, 1571). istanbul, though commonly used, was never the official name of constantinople throughout the history of ottoman empire. the red sea was called sea of mecca at the time - note that people in 1600 thought the sea of reeds moses crossed, as in the bible (exodus) and the sea of mecca, are totally unrelated. james king bible (1611) translated it into red sea, but it still did not refer to the water body between arabic peninsula and africa #ottomanempire #turkishempire #arab #antiquemaps
