Certified pet nutritionists and pet health coaches do not require any prerequisite degrees or classes, meaning that anybody can pay for and complete the course even if they lack a fundamental basis of information in which to build a solid understanding of the material. These individuals are prime examples of the Dunning-Kruger Effect in action; meaning that they truly don’t know how much they don’t know because they haven’t been properly educated on the subject in which they claim to be “experts” or “professionals”. Frankly, it’s irresponsible and I’m sure many pets have already fallen victim to their unknowingly foolish advice. Please, be careful from whom you take any pet health advice and always, ALWAYS, double check these social media recommendations with your pets veterinarian. Regarding “holistic” veterinarians… it’s simply a marketing, gimmicky term. Holistic means whole. All veterinarians are trained to take a patients entire lifestyle, environment, nutrition, etc. into consideration when we are working on a diagnosis or health recommendations. This is exactly why your veterinarian always asks what your pet is eating, what supplements or meds they are taking, their activity level, etc. every time you visit! Veterinarians can chose to be trained in integrative techniques such as acupuncture and herbal medicine in addition to their DVM or VMD, but that does not necessarily make them more “holistic” than regular veterinarians, it simply means they can offer complementary treatments that may or may not have much scientific support, but are unlikely to be harmful. Unfortunately, some “holistic” veterinarians use fear-mongering and misinformation to help market themselves or promote their own business. This creates distrust of traditional veterinarians, and is truly a big pet peeve of mine. Be weary of any individual trying to sell you their services by simply bashing competitors, rather than showing you benefits of their own practice. #t#thehonestveth#honestvetadviceh#honestpetadvicev#veterinarianv#veterinarymedicinev#vetmedd#dogtord#dvmv#vettechv#vetstudentv#vetnursep#petsp#petsofinstagramd#dogsofinstagramd#dogmomd#dogworldm#mansbestfriendp#petcarev#vetcarec#catsofinstagramcatmom #petnutrition #petnutritionist #pethealthcoach #holistic #holisticvet #integrativevet #bullshit #beware
