Hi - Jewish funeral director here! The tradition is that we are all equal in death, but that applies to preparation, including Tahara and AWCs. Historically, graves are close together for spacing purposes for both family and society or synagogue plots.

Sorry, Brad…. After working for a cemetery corporation for 28 years and working at a Jewish cemetery, your fact is wrong. Every demolition is just as vain as any other. The on difference with the Jewish community is (as you sort of stated) that they take advantage of every inch of land (hence the old “joke” the Jews are buried standing up). Jewish graves are 8’ x3’ while most other graves are 10’ x 42”.
