100% cultivate it to get some soil for the brace roots. lot of weather yet to determine yield. try not to worry - things always work out one way or another.

I've been planting for over 50 years and it's aways achallenge. I put a $100,000 upgrade on the planter I have but still hard to fine tune it with different soil types within the same field. Precision planting isn't all that precise under those conditions. Appreciate your honesty, don't beat yourself up my friend...shit happens.

I think the key to corn on corn starts in the previous fall by sizing residue and getting the field as black as possible, which might take two tillage passes.

We had some of that with soybeans following con. The soil was so dry and fine I don't think there's anything you can do. It's an anomaly.

Cultivating is a great idea. Also check on potassium levels in the plant. Having enough with help tremendously with standability and making sure those shallower roots can still cope with mid/late season stress.

I’ve been at this a while and every season still finds a way to test you. Spent a good chunk upgrading my planter too, but different soils in the same field always throw things off. Precision planting sounds nice but it’s not always precise. That said, you’ll be surprised how good the corn pushes through in the end. Appreciate the honesty—don’t be too hard on yourself, this is just part of the grind.

Had the same thing happen last year , field still turned out a 240BPA crop and we had a dry year in northwest Ohio to boot. This year we had a 120 acre field planted late at night and it went in the ground 3.5” and it’s all out thank god

This reminds me of no till, the corn always looks terrible coming up and uneven but always comes around and yields good. As a former Agronomist we always said plant it and don’t look at it for a month “jokingly” because it always looked terrible and made guys worried for no reason.
