@ohhowcivilized: Let’s have afternoon tea at Louis Vuitton in New York City. The LV store on 57th Street is being renovated and it’s dressed up as a stack of their luggage. The store operates across the street during the construction and on the 4th floor is their new cafe. Making reservations is not easy. You have to book on Resy.com and it took me a few tries over 3 months to finally get a table. What’s really interesting is that they lay down their ground rules in the confirmation text. They ask that you dress your best, “elegant for a NYC day or night out.” Athletic wear is not allowed and they can refuse entry if you don’t don’t dress for the occasion. Also, they state that you can’t bring in professional camera equipment or use your laptop. I wonder if they had the rules or if customers did do these things so they then set the rules. Afternoon tea is $110 per person. Almost everything on the table, from the teapot to the tea sandwich bread has the LV logo and flower motif on it. Tea is served loose and it’s served with a tea strainer. I don’t remember the last time I ever saw this, but they have coffee options with the tea. The 3-tiered tray came out after the tea and on the top were mini sweets, the middle had tea sandwiches, and the bottom had a marble cake shaped like an LV flower. They also brought out a separate plate with tea sandwiches. Note the LV logo on the bread. See anything missing? Yup, no scones. This was a miss. I don’t think it’s a proper afternoon tea without scones. I had the marble cake with vanilla sauce, then the mini sweets. Everything individually was good and I loved their attention to detail.
