I'm feeling this think peice. Interesting info to throw with a pinch of speculation. Nu metal and grunge are the 2 genres that had rap and hip hop infusions. you got bands like Korn, System of A Down, and Slipknot that had these even homages amd covers to old school rap, hip hop, funk, disco, R&B songs and more. Kittie did a cover of Da Brat song which i thought went pretty hard. perhaps I haven't listened to enough rap but I haven't heard a lot of pop punk influence in there. Definitely metal xxxtentacion was sampled a slipknot song on one of his Instrumentals.Rage like the choice of words. I'd definitely use that describe the energy behind the music and can feel some of the influence too as far as instrumentals and thw overall song goes Playboi Carti definitely brings that I think. The aestetic is definitely prominent in the fashion. As far as the metamorphosis of rap there have been subgenres prior to the new ones of which might or are being reclassified. TripHop(Portishead) definitely being one, Jazzhop (Digable Planets) horror core, boom bap, to name a few. But one I rarely see talked about and is making a small resurgence is Rapcore. Definitely what you'd expect from the melding of metal and rap. Limp Bizkit, Primer 55, Attila, Amul9 from Atlanta, The Urge (they're more punk from what I can remember), and the one that stands at the apex Bionic Jive. They do get a little religious for like a song or 2, but the opening track is a spoken word poem? Definitely worth a listen. Co opted? I can agree with that but it wasn't just non black folks like the the last 3 listed bands Amul9 being black/Hispanic I think?(grain of salt) political bands like System of a Down, Rage against the machine their subject matter and themes match align with the genres original empowerment. Cite some of the lyrics. I can understand the sentiment of co opting but that left some really good artist/brands out even if the frontman or multiple members are black out. as far as that goes I think theres always been a lack of attention/support from the black community for other black doing it calling them white ostracozing them. Saying these genres are white when they were developed from...
