All relations are transactional even love, the only pure love is the parents for their kids

Love him ! But if you constantly give and don’t get anything in return , there is an expectation there

Hang on though, something needs to be said for matching effort. If one person is giving endlessly out of unconditional love while the other person is receiving and giving minimal effort, and their behavior self-serving …that’s also not OK. You can call it transactional, or you can call it loving yourself as much as you love your partner.

We agree there’s a difference between reciprocal love and transactional, love, yes?

Because all the giving will eventually leave you burned out if you’re not receiving anything back. That’s when you start questioning your relationship

Sorry but you’re off on this one. A relationship is support both ways unconditionally. You should both give and be able to expect something back if you’re a real team

But showing appreciation when someone does something for you is also love, not transaction.
whether friendship, family, or marriage, nobody is obligated to do anything for anyone. Therefore, someone going that extra mile to do something for you. Appreciating the person by giving back shows how u also value that person, and that is not a transaction but love.

He is 100% right.. but when you ask that one person to show up and it turns out to be a battle. I feel like they are now using you.

if the other person doesn't do anything ever? then you aren't valuing yourself

Only mothers love is unconditional and expects nothing in return. Everything else is a transaction, and that's how it should be. 🥰

You don’t expect something back for what you did, but you expect a person that says they love you to do stuff in general for you

Doing something for nothing in return is that agape but the Eros has a level of reciprocation. Pouring yourself out & not being able to expect your partner to pour back sounds like self abandonment. I don’t think he got this one right.

But we are only human and if I do ten things for somebody expecting one thing back is saving yourself from being abused or used, also if you give not expecting the recieving should at least appreciate it...saying thank you don't take much

At some point, it becomes one-sided though. That also is not love; if you are constantly giving and not getting anything, including the bare minimum in return.
