Akimov” is a reference to Aleksandr Fyodorovich Akimov, a Soviet engineer who tragically died of acute radiation poisoning following the Chernobyl disaster on April 26, 1986. He was a shift supervisor on duty at the Chernobyl reactor Unit 4. During the accident, Akimov received a dose of 1,500 mcg while attempting to restart the flow of feedwater into the reactor.
