Guys as a Japanese you can definitely eat while walking, AS LONG as it’s not messy. Plenty of workers and our salary men run while eating because it convenient to them. Make sure if you are walking and eating it doesn’t make a mess on the floor or around you.

I loved Japan!! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I learnt to never hand cash directly to anyone put it in the little dish or on the counter. Whereas in the UK putting money directly on the counter and not in someone’s hand is seen as rude!

I think common sense is massive for Japan. I recently went and made sure I was well aware of the rules but you really do learn as you go. I think it’s the same as any where you go, be respectful and aware of what others are doing around you. Doesn’t need to be a big fuss

The whole walking and eating thing is so tired at this point it’s not a thing just use common sense don’t eat a full on meal while walking but smoothing small no one cares. The main reason people don’t walk much is not because it’s a rule it’s because there is no bins! It’s also not disrespectful to tip it’s just not common

the eating while walking part is not fully true, there’s multiple places where it’s not seen disturbing and i think in general it’s not that disrespectful but more annoying, but i might be wrong, just speaking from experience

Why does a country with massive street food/bento/conbini culture not allow you to eat anywhere or throw away the absolutely insane amounts of single use plastics they use? Because frankly it feels like most "norms" in Japan don't actually serve a purpose besides harassing people into social obedience.

hey, well said regarding the rules, a few others I experienced and know☺️- there aren't rubbish bins on street; NO littering, either take with you or else there are bins at 7/11s. you can eat at 7/11 - if sniffly, avoid blowing nose on public transport. if feeling unwell wear mask - Japanese are relatively conservative people not picky but especially in temples etc dress a little more conservative - do not walk in the middle of a shrine arch, but walk through on one of the sides -lastly learn basic greetings, please, thank you...they absolutely LOVE it when genuinely greeted in Japanese and shows you are trying. - if you spot a Geisha...DO NOT TAKE PICS, respect their privacy. hope this helps 😍 have a blast in Japan! it is AMAZING
