I studied for 2 years in Japan. My professor used to visit brothels and his wife, mother of his 2 children, was aware of it. I once asked him if she would deep inside be upset about it and he replied that he wouldn't mind if she was having an affair with a young man who lived across the street and he kind of suspected it. In his mind his fantasies were too wild to be fulfilled by a traditional middle aged Japanese woman like his wife and him being able to frequent brothels two to three times a month was what held his sanity and his marriage together.
