Mookie was an infielder. Never wanted to play outfield. He did it bc he was blocked by Bogarts and Pedroia in Boston. He practiced everyday shortstop so when a chance came up to move positions he was ready

My buddy was the right fielder in waiting with the Red Sox when Mookie went up to Pawtucket. He was tasked with “showing him the ropes” around the outfield. Obviously Mookie ultimately took his job and went up to the bigs. If Mookie had played short in Boston, Shannon Wilkerson probably would have had a 6-7 year big league career. Right place at the right time

ya but he still hit better when he was an outfielder. It's kind of like when a batter moves up and down the lineup and performs better in certain positions in the lineup. plus we miss his arm in right field.
