I think 1st dates should be coffee dates, or a walk in the park to get to know one another. If it's not connecting, no harm done to either person. The dinner dates should be 3 dates in when you want to pursue a futher connection.

I will say the meal wasn’t free he did pay for the goods the same amount of the meal for you guys. But I feel like in any situation if a man asks you to dinner and picks the place he pays there’s no “take backs” after that’s a boy not a man

Depending what job he does too he could have been paid for this date too. or at least a good portion of time for going to the restaurant and all so it's wild he basically traded goods, possibly got paid, and still wanted money from her

Where did this tradition come from? Cuz never in my life has someone asked for a refund on our date. Yk why? Bc generally it’s a date and not a business transaction. But this entire “date” was a business transaction. He only took her there on that day bc he had to work.

What is it with men and not paying for meals? When I go out with my friends, sometimes I’ll offer to pay just to treat them. If I go out on a date with someone, it really doesn’t matter whether I pay or whether they pay, I guess it really depends on who invited who. But what is the deal with guys wanting a refund? This isn’t the first time I’ve heard a similar story. I would not pay him back for the meal no. It’s just weird to ask.

NTA. 1. He was at work & he squeezed a date 🚩 2. He left her sitting alone for 15 mins 🚩 3. He didn't pay for the meal, it was free 🚩 She doesn't owe him anything.

it is NOT customary to reimburse someone for your meal because you're not having a second date. That's petty and rude. Etiquette is the person who asked the other out is who pays, unless otherwise agreed upon. If he's only willing to pay bc he expects something more, he's sleazy, and women he's going out with are probably paying for their meal at the end of the first date or paying him back because they want to end things with no reason for him to contact them again.

He should pay her her hourly job rate+70% (because she's literally the only working expert in the field on her taste)+ whatever it took for her to get ready because he wasted her time by being unsatisfactory. It is after all "customary". 😊

If it was another situation I would say she should pay him back no matter what form of payment he used. But on a first date that he went into with the intention of paying no way. She shouldn’t have to pay him back cus it didn’t work out how he wanted
