marrying the Freys wasnt the solution, they together with the Boltons would betray anyway... it was better to seek an alliance with the Tyrells... You force the Lannisters to fight on two fronts, you get the numerical advantage and the largest supplier of agricultural products in the seven kingdoms, you might even avoid the betrayal of the Freys and Bolton (simply by seeing the huge shift in the balance of war). to finish what seems most important to me, they would win a family who are good people but very skilled in plots and manipulations, which the Starks at the beginning were useless. at the end of the day you would have all that and Robb, an imposing and admired king at the same time as an incredibly talented general, with Margaery loved Queen and a skilled politician with a talent for manipulation.
