@crawleyandthefam: For awareness: A "lavativa" involves inserting a pre-filled syringe or tube into the rectum and gently pressing the plunger to release the enema solution. This helps soften the stool, which the veterinarian then aspirates using multiple syringes. The vet removes as much of the liquified stool as possible, but cannot fully empty the colon, as some stool remains in the upper part. Forcing its removal could cause further damage, especially since our cat, Crawley, already suffers from megacolon. This condition means his large intestines are abnormally enlarged due to accumulated stool he cannot pass on his own. Unfortunately, Crawley has not had a bowel movement in three days since the procedure. We are now administering laxatives to stimulate his bowel movement, hoping they will be effective. If not, we will have to take him back to the vet for another enema. While the procedure is safe, we find it difficult to watch him undergo it, as it requires sedation each time, which carries its own risks. We pray that one day he will no longer need this procedure, but for now, we are doing everything we can to strengthen him so he can overcome his condition.
