@we.skoolhouse: How do you weigh in on the traditional classroom compared to more progressive ones? 🤔 #kidsoftiktok #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #childhood #teachersoftiktok #teacherlife #teachertok #teachersontiktok #classroom #classroomdecor #classroomsetup #classroomtransformation
There are arguments for both sides- but personally, I vote to keep my colorful classroom.

I have been to Finland and got to shadow a kinder class for 3 days. the difference is DRAMATIC! we should basically adopt everything Finland does as far as public education. right down to paying for the teachers bachelor's and masters degree!

Same when I went to school in Germany. And they were leaps ahead. I've seen teachers ridiculed for not decorating their room more, here. 🤦

Part of the reason is how horrible our classrooms in America look without the decor. That minimalist classroom is beautiful, modern, well taken care of, and obviously well funded. I’ve had classrooms with literal sewage floods happen in them, with nothing done to it but the minimal amount of cleaning. We need to brighten the walls to make it feel like a space that is cared about

Boring… non engaging. I think each teacher should be able set her/his class the way they want. We aren’t finland

I enjoy keeping my classroom minimalist. First off, I’m not spending money on work. Secondly, there are so many students with ADD and ADHD that there’s no need to add extra stimulation.

Can we stop making these comparisons. There is a massive difference and that is CULTURE and the people! Good grief people! Just like American cannot adopt Japan educations either

I’m a secondary teacher with a background in psychology. In psych they teach you to curate the environment to make the client feel relaxed and safe. I applied this principle to classroom, and boy does it work. My students are super chill and they say they love the vibes

My classroom has clean lines and no teacher posters! I use Google Skides for anchor charts and the kids love the coffee vibe of my class.

We should adapt the Finnish school system in all its forms, not just the Scandinavian style. My niece lives there, and yes, they do have desks.

Love. Kids need to be loved. Delivery of the lesson is the difference. You can be in a prison or on a beach and the delivery of the lesson is the difference.

Tell that to the state department of Ed who do not value play and socialization in primary grades.

Most of the things you see on the American school walls are mandatory items that admin “checks off” during classroom observations!

Veteran teacher here…it becomes a competition among teachers to have the “cutest” classroom it has nothing to do with what’s best for the kids
