the problem i could see with this type of ultra wealthy “philanthropy” is i imagine living in a town owned by one family is there being no real checks & balances to their power and a limit to the free speech allowed to anyone who lives under their territorial control

Naoshima island was the highlight of my trip to Japan. Absolutely stunning but totally get the “villain” vibe. It was a tad eerie like being in an alternate universe
