this is still wizardry to me. how does all this process ones and zeros and that somehow turns into whatever I want on my screen

green is cheaper (bcs of mass production), its good to see mistakes(broken solder-pads and cracks,...) bcs the contrast with copper is excellent. it's also better for the fatigue of the eyes when doing visual inspection, it have a lot of positive points to make the pcb green and no drawbacks that i can think of

The local recycling yard pays less for non green motherboards. They say they have less gold. I have no idea.

I've heard that green PCBs are supposed to reduce eye fatigue in visual inspection. Having done some visual inspection at my job, green does seem to help, but only slightly

i learned from another tiktok that all our highway signs are green with white text because they did studies and that was the color combination that was the easiest for the most people to read. maybe this same rationale played a role in a decision somewhere but it was never formalized? 🤷

PCBs come in many colours, like white, green, red, orange, & black. Early solder masks were based on epoxy(bisphenol-A) resins that naturally had a greenish tint in the 1960s/70s & this became the norm to today & it offers good contrast

i think also because green is opposite on the colour wheel to copper. so theoretically it will be easier to see the circuits although idk if thats true

(I'm going to guess because it's fun) maybe at first the only coating they found was green, then they learned about a different technology that could use diff colors but most kept green for tradition, so now most use green and because of that there's more demand and thus more offer for green and that means cheaper

I hate when someone thinks they’ve answered a question you have, but it just leaves you with so many more. For example: why is a pc green? Because it’s the cheapest. Why is it the cheapest? Because it’s the most available or accessible ? Is the most available or accessible the best option though? What’s the best option?
