It made us sick knowing where they were going to end up. WE HAD TO TRY. Dozens of former show and lesson horses, camp horses, family horses—some still in braided manes—walked right up to us, craving scratches, kindness, connection. It was absolutely heartbreaking. These were the forgotten ones. Sent to the auction with no bidder except the kill pen. Then come Monday morning, weighed and tagged for slaughter. Not because they weren’t kind. Not because they weren’t sound. But because someone decided they were no longer useful. This is the final fundraiser to close out the group of 20 we intercepted Monday—some of the last pulled off the truck. Horses who were minutes from shipping. We have just over $40,000 left to raise. If 400 people gave $100, it would be done. If 800 gave $50, we’d be done.
