I saw that reddit thread, and then nps made their statement the next day. Crazy to see/read it as it unfolded. Such a scary situation for the people that hiked out, and for the rangers.

Wow this is insane - was there last summer and it is such a special place to me. So scary for those hikers who packed up and left but so glad they listened to their guts. Feel horrible for everyone else on the island/involved

I deeply dislike true crime as entertainment but I do think it’s helpful that these stories are being told in public and that people, especially women, are becoming better-informed about what the biggest threats are to their safety when out in the backcountry
