This works with 50 (half of 100) as a base as well. For instance, 47x47, 3 to 50, 47-3=44, half of 44 is 22, 3^2 is 9. Answer is 2209.

If the number is smaller than 50 you can half the result before you add the square of the difference of 50. e.g. 45x45 45-5 = 40 [4000] 40÷2 = 20 [2̲0̲0̲0̲] 5² = 25 [0̲0̲2̲5̲] 45x45 = 2̲0̲0̲0̲+0̲0̲2̲5̲ 45x45 = 2025
