You’re right, the difference from the west is as a Chinese friend told me it’s not legal in China, but also it’s not illegal. As it was said another commentator if you do not hinder society it’s ok.

I wouldn’t say China is a LGBTQ friendly country. Majority of LGBTQ people in mainland China are still in the closest. They do have places where LGBTQ people can gather, but they are all kind in the shadows. The good thing is that the Chinese government so far hasn’t tried to crack down those places. U will never see any rainbow flags in the public in China. China still has a long way to go to be a LGBTQ friendly country. 👍

You can do what you like, provided that you don't disturb others and don't force others to take sides.

China has been busy eradicating poverty in the interior, Tibet and Xinjiang. Unless a minority is discriminated against it’s not a priority. They do however give extra points to minorities in the national university entrance exams and excluded minorities from the 1 child policy.

A trans Chinese man I have been following has said that unfortunately the kind of culture of 'keep it quiet' and gentle social frowning on it by older Chinese causes some sad problems for trans people especially FtM. Because testosterone is regulated fairly strongly it is hard to get and sometimes doctors need parental permission even for adults to do trans healthcare. It definitely sounds less hostile and generally heading in a good direction compared to Western, but the 'Don't make waves' approach with older conservative elements having lots of say means things have a slow and long journey to get to where they need to be. Cheers for the video!

Capital forces may use social issues like LGBTQ rights to divert public attention from class conflicts, hyping such topics in some countries to trigger controversies and gender opposition, thus reducing focus on capital-labor struggles. In China, there is no similar situation, so such confrontations are fewer.

My best friend is Chinese (British born) she felt safer and more free a lesbian in China than she did in America. Removing laws the feeling she got was often that if people knew in America it would actively harm her life, while people in China mostly didn’t care.

The West likes to pride themselves liberal but there's hidden or silent discrimination people like to ignore. Hollywood is seen to be open, but how many leading men r out & successful? How many LGBTQ shows/movies r commercially successful?
