old english stopped being spoken in 1066 or just shortly after when the two langauges of old english and norse where merged. making english and then moving on to modern day english that we speak now.

No mention of Norn which was spoken in Orkney and Shetland (and Caithness to some extent) before being replaced by Scots and eventually English and that Gaelic was never spoken in the northern isles.

Pictish was a Celtic Brythonic language (ancient Welsh 🏴) but without the heavy Latin influence which Brythonic underwent during the Roman occupation. Cumbric is old Welsh, fossilised. The earliest Welsh poetry is from today's SE Scotland and NE England from 6-9th century AD and recalls wars between the native Welsh and Anglo Saxon as well as the earliest lullaby in Britain. Poems by Taliesin and Aneurin. This area in Welsh is called Yr Hen Ogledd (The Old North). 🏴 There are still many places in souther Scotland with Welsh names.

Interesting that the Scots language is more Anglo Saxon than the English language. While Scots retained its old Anglish words, English became very French with the Norman conquest. Scotland wasn’t conquered by the Norman’s so scots stayed closer to its Anglo Saxon roots.

Scots has Germanic roots as well. Did not see that in your video. Also the languages were suppressed and Gaelic was outlawed due to colonialism. yes I said what I said. colonialistic masters made us feel ashamed of our culture and languages. children were beaten for speaking it at school.

this is why scotland mainly speaks English now and doesnt have 1 specific language that belongs to scotland. its completely unique with Brythonic/Irish/ Germanic and Norse influence. I think this is why Welsh flourished better in Wales as its 1 language for the country- for all.
