In the beginning, near the Cambodian border, Thailand launched an attack on Cambodian troops, resulting in the death of one Cambodian soldier. Later, the Thai side claimed that it was an act of defending their territory and declared themselves the rightful owners of the Ta Moan Toch and Ta Moan Thom temples, which are located on Cambodian land near the border. However, these temples have long been recognized as part of Cambodia’s national heritage.
Following this, Cambodia attempted to bring the issue to the international security organization, but Thailand refused to engage with it and requested that Cambodia not file a complaint. Cambodia rejected this request because Thailand had initiated the attack, while Cambodia had not responded with any counterattack. When Cambodia refused to withdraw the complaint, Thailand began threatening the country by cutting off electricity, internet, and food supplies that Cambodia had been purchasing from Thailand.
However, Cambodia was not intimidated. Instead, it independently terminated those contracts in response to Thailand’s threats. Cambodia had sufficient electricity and internet, as well as an abundance of domestically produced food sold within the country, making foreign supplies unnecessary. Cambodia continued to function and develop on its own.
As a result of this failed intimidation, Thailand lost tens of millions of dollars. Eventually, Thailand requested Cambodia to resume buying electricity and internet services through an official statement, which initially led to a misunderstanding by Cambodia. Nevertheless, Cambodia was not confused by the situation, recognizing it as a genuine case of Thailand threatening Cambodia.😂🇹🇭👎
