Elbit Systems Ltd, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer with UK branches, is frequently targeted by activists for its role supplying military technology used in the Gaza war. Since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked the Israel—killing around 1,200 people and taking hostages— drawing condemnation for perceived human rights abuses in the exercise of the Palestinian right to armed resistance under international law. Israeli operations in Gaza have caused over 60,000 Palestinian deaths and left more than 100,000 injured. The siege of Gaza has deepened humanitarian catastrophe, affecting both Palestinians and Israeli hostages, restricting aid, and displacing hundreds of thousands. This is part of a wider history, stretching back to the Nakba of 1948, when more than 750,000 Palestinians were subject to ethnic cleansing and dispossession creating an international diaspora of refugees —marking the beginning of decades of conflict and cycles of violence which occurred with the support of the British government.
