Week one of recovery 🩼 After major reconstructive surgery on my foot and ankle, reality is setting in. This isn’t my first surgery, but I’ll be honest - it feels harder this time around. I think it’s because I’d finally started feeling a bit more like me again - walking more, regaining independence, and actually enjoying being out and about - and now I’m right back to square one. At the moment, I can only have my foot down for 5 minutes every hour, which makes everything take 10x longer. I’ve been mostly on strict bed rest, and as someone who’s used to doing things for myself, that loss of independence hits hard. You don’t realise how much you take mobility for granted until it’s gone - even little things like getting up to make a cup of tea or just walking to another room. It might sound small, but getting outside yesterday, even just for a hospital appointment, felt like such a huge thing. The fresh air, the movement, the simple act of leaving my bed - it all meant more than I expected. Recovery can feel isolating when every day blurs into the next, so that short trip reminded me there’s progress ahead, even if it’s slow. Huge shoutout to my grandma for being an absolute star - she came to meet me at home so I could get back into my flat safely (crutches = not fun 😅). We had a proper catch-up and a cuppa once I got settled, and honestly, that small moment made my whole day. Sometimes it’s not about big milestones - it’s about the tiny, ordinary things that make you feel human again. For anyone who’s been on crutches or stuck on bed rest, you’ll know the struggle of wanting to do simple things like carry your tea to the living room or get yourself a snack, and realising you just can’t. It’s frustrating, but it’s also teaching me patience - to slow down, ask for help, and focus on the fact that healing is happening, even if I can’t see it yet. Here’s to week one down, many more to go, and finding small wins along the way 💛 #RecoveryJourney #FootSurgery #AnkleReconstruction #CrutchesLife #PostSurgeryRecovery
