Replying to @Ali Collins Hello AAPI content creators: If I tagged you, I saw your post expressing support of the Black community—thank you! I am now calling on you to take ACTION. As you know, speaking up is the first step, but the majority of our work lies in taking action off these apps (owned by the very folks that are pitting our communities against one another.) The following are steps folks can take to fight anti-Blackness in the AAPI community: 1. Model solidarity with Black community members - Amplify our content, promote and support our work, share your platform with us via LIVES 2. Get educated and educate others on racialized disinformation campaigns: read the Asian American Disinformation Report. (See my ‘Asian and Black Lives’ Playlist, for more information.) 3. Call out systems of manipulation - Name the players and the playbook. Do your reasearch on right-wing AAPI media like Asian Dawn and other propaganda, and political messaging strategists/actors: Andy Ngo, Diane Yap, Wenyuan Woo, Asra Nomani, Garry Tan, Josephine Zhao, Lee Cheng and their connections to Ed Blum and Chris Rufo. Who are they? Who’s funding them? How do they benefit by stirring up conflict? 4. Education is the antidote to hate - Asian Americans were used to dismantle Affirmative Action. Now they are being used to target Liberated Ethnic Studies in CA (the only state which requires this course for HS graduation.) Advocate for Ethnic Studies, Black Studies. Advocate for the anti-racist educators leading this work. We are under attack. 5. Educate yourself and others about Black History and the History of Black-Asian Solidarity - It isn’t enough to call out individual bad actors. We also need to highlight good actors. If we only share negative examples we reinforce division. Providing positive examples offers us all guidance and hope. I hope this is a helpful list. A little about me: I am a trained educator (over 30 yrs.) with extensive experience in anti-violence education in diverse settings. I was targeted by paid political actors in the AAPI community while serving on the SF school board in order to remove equity policies in SF schools. Policies I put in place were ethnic studies for Pk-12 students, desegregated learning in math, art and in an elite public high school, removing police from schools, convening an Equity Audit to document hate speech and discrimination targeting Black and Asian students, in SF schools. In order to dismantle these policies I was targeted by a racialized information attack and removed from office in a million dollar recall campaign. Folks who targeted me (and others like me) now work at high levels in the Trump Administration. I am open to collaborating on projects. Reach out to me via DM or say so in the comments. I welcome the opportunity to share knowledge and help build pathways to healing the divisions between and among or communities. Peace, Ali #asiansforblacklives #blackasiansolidarity
