Black rose is a group which has been trying to kill ambessas kids because the black rose knew that her kid was born with natural magic which could have been a threat to the black rose group so thats why they killed mels brother. The black rose only knew ambessa had two kids but since mel left they didnt know where she went to kill her. The blackrose has been following ambessas every move so they only found out where mel was when ambessa came to piltover and thats why the blackrose took so long to get mel(trap her) and in that trap they used mind games to find out if mel was on their side or her mothers and once they found out she was on their side its why they gave her the necklace so that they could finally get to ambessa and kill her

Mel is a child of magic, because Ambessa had an affair with a member of the black rose, but instead of raising her to be one, she took her home to Noxcus and raised her as royalty. The black rose members didn't know which child (Mel or her brother) , was the child so they sent them to trial, to prove their magical abilities. Mel's brother failed so it resulted in his death. Mel didn't fail so it turned out SHE is the child of the affair.

So Ambessa slept with a man that had connections with the black rose, birthing Kenai and Mel years apart, the black rose went searching for the child with arcane abilities but found Kenai first instead since he was the first born and only rationalized why he would be the arcane bearer instead of Mel. Kenai was in the same puzzle room that Mel was trapped in, but sadly wasn't successful. When Kenai went missing, Ambessa cast Mel out of Noxus to essentially protect her, but went through a terrible way of doing so and made Me believe she was being disowned. Ambessa came to Piltover over suspicion that the Black Rose is catching up to Mel, which her theories are proven to be correct in the second season when she calls Amara into her "office/room thing" and discusses with her, making the Black Rose reveal themselves using Amara as their vessel, so she ends up killing Amara. Mel ends up disappearing around then, and Ambessa knows that it's from the Black Rose's doing, which is her drive for having Piltover join her army, so that her troops will double in size and be able to attack the Black Rose more thoroughly— cause you also have to remember that she is canonically the weakest war general in Noxus, she NEEDS a larger fleet.
