As a 10-year survivor of Necrotizing Fasciitis, I felt compelled to reach out after watching your recent segment on the “flesh-eating bacteria.” While it is true that this infection can be contracted from water exposure and shellfish, the way the report was framed may unintentionally lead viewers to believe that these are the only causes—which is simply not the case. This infection can also enter the body through something as simple as a cut, scrape, insect bite, surgical incision, or even blunt trauma. In my own case, it was not waterborne or food-related, and yet it nearly cost me my life. It is vital that the public understands the full range of potential entry points and risks. If your station is going to raise awareness about such a serious and fast-moving infection, I respectfully urge you to provide more comprehensive information. Public education saves lives—but only if people have the full picture. Thank you for your time, and for considering a more detailed approach in future coverage. I am always willing to share my story if it helps others better understand the seriousness and unpredictability of this disease.
