fun fact: the reason why Virgil's works survived the middle ages was because in one of his works he talked about the "birth of a boy who would save the world" (he was clearly talking about Octavian) but middle ages people were like omg he's talking about Jesus!!! we have to save this stuff!! :)

i love the aeneid (I'm named after one of the people in it) specifically book 4 and Dido's imagery with fire, passion, etc, but moreso as a victim of fate as well as the gods

I really love his love poems especially— not a big fan of Metamorphoses sadly. I find that his command of language is better utilised when he’s most debouched, needy, desperate and a little manic. He’s fucking mad lmfao

When reading the Aeneid one must keep in mind that Augustus was reforming the empire at that time. The work really reflectie that, as can be seen in Aeneas his shield that shows the important parts in Roman history where Actium is included.

The fact that we can get the satisfaction of listening to smart people talking is so similar to the feeling of falling in love. Not the same thing but is really similar and I love it 💕 Thank you for your content. I always appreciate it.
