My mom once gently sat me down to explain that my friend’s parents didn’t give her the same care and support and patience and that’s why we need to be extra nice to her and help her be happier, because sometimes kids act out when they aren’t happy due to family issues. I’ll never forget that. Glad she had open caring arms instead of dismissal

“Not parented well” is pretty broad. I’d like my kids to have compassion and empathy for others, and be a friend to kids who might not be treated well at home. Our home will always be a safe place with doors open to those who need it. If the parents are encouraging unsafe behaviour, racism etc, and the kids emulate that, then definitely we are not going to do our bet to not be associated with that family in any way.
