Why isn't the traditional Chinese costume Hanfu?
1. "Hanfu" is just a costume from some Han Chinese era
'Hanfu' literally means clothes from the Han Dynasty or clothes worn by the Han Chinese.
However, China is a multi-ethnic country with a mixture of not only the Han, but also various dynasties such as Sui, Tang, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. During the Qing Dynasty, the Manchurian costumes, qipao, and magic tricks, became traditional clothing.
2. Hanfu is now a 'retro-style costume' that has been reinvented in China
Hanfu, which is popular in modern China, is more of a 'retro style' that emphasizes aesthetic elements rather than historical historical evidence, and some have been influenced by foreign clothes such as hanbok and kimono.
This is nothing more than a 'modern representation' than a costume tradition that has continued in real history.
3. It is difficult to conclude that it is a 'traditional Chinese costume' due to the ambiguity of the boundaries between ethnicity and culture
China is a multiethnic country, with each ethnic group having a different costume tradition. So it is unreasonable to claim one costume as "the traditional costume of the whole of China."
