@drsermedmezher: “You Don’t Have Autism So You’re Neurotypical” #wait Source: PMID 36158596 Neurodiversity is a concept that is inherently difficult to define because it challenges conventional ideas about what it means to be "normal." At its core, neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in human brain function and behavior, encompassing conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others. However, unlike the traditional medical model, which tends to pathologize these differences and seeks to “fix” or normalize individuals to fit societal expectations, neurodiversity frames these variations as part of the natural spectrum of human experience. The concept emerged as a response to the limitations and harms of the medical model, which often treats neurological differences as deficits or disorders that need treatment or correction. Under this model, the goal is typically to bring individuals closer to what is considered a “functional” or “average” member of society — someone who communicates, learns, and behaves in expected ways. This approach often fails to acknowledge the value, strengths, and unique perspectives that come with neurodivergent minds. #autism #neurospicy #adhd

Just a thought, if it harms no one, it's a variation to be accepted. Schizophrenia can be harmful to many, autism is usually only harmful if suppressed or policed
